Women’s league gets K20,000 from new firm

 THE Papua New Guinea “Women’s Kumul Campaign” has attracted the backing of the China Railway Constructioin and Engineering company. 

The company gave K20,000 to the  last week and has expressed interet in becoming the major sponsor of the the campaign.

The campaign aims to raise money for the national team to fund its national tournaments and participation at international tournaments. 

PNG Women’s Rugby Football League  (PNGWRFL) founder and preseident Wendy Kohun thanked CRCE for backing womne in sport particularly rugby league. 

“I’m pleased that a company that has only recently started operations in PNG has taken an interest in sponsoring women’s rugby league,” Kohun said. 

“The code means a lot to the women who play it. In supporting the endeavour CRCE is helping these girls and women. We are working to have the first women’s Kumul team and everyone must support this endeavour.”

The national championship is to be hosted in Lae from December 2-8, involving 11 teams. 

On Dec 7 the official name for the women’s national team will be announced.

In late March the national team will tour New Zealand.

The two-week trip will see them play the Counties Manukau, Auckland and Samoa. 

Other international games are still under way and will soon be in the Calendar.

The PNGWRFL will stage its Vision2020 for women’s rugby league by creating player pathways through development programmes, coaching clinics and referee courses to build up the league’s capacity. 

The development pathways will begin with schoolgirls competitions involving from the age of six to 18 years.
