AT least two men are on the prowl in the National Capital District (NCD) looking for women and girls to abduct.
They are reported to be driving a brown Toyota Camry fitted with two different car registration number plates (BFI 122 and BFD 258).
They recently attempted to capture a woman who was crossing the road to the RH Supermarket taxi bay in Hohola, Port Moresby.
Hohola station commander Senior Insp Benjamin Kua said police were already aware of the failed abduction and “we are keeping a lookout for them”.
At the same time he is calling on women and girls to be wary and alert and stay safe when in public.
“They must avoid getting into the vehicles of strangers and places that are considered high security risk or dangerous, like alleys,” he added.
In the recent incident, the woman was crossing the road in Hohola when a man armed wirth a knife got out of a car and tried to force her into the vehicle.
The woman was lucky when an alert bystander saw her in distress, called and waved at her.
The man got back into the car and fled.
The men then parked the car at the Hohola bus stop and remained inside. A woman was walking to the bus stop at the time, unaware of the danger.
A man got out of the car, grabbed the her arm and tried to force her into the vehicle.
Security guards nearby rushed up to her aid and the man and his accomplice drove away.
The woman sought refuge at the guard post and called her family member to pick her up.
Kua is asking members of the public to note the registration number of any suspicious car they come across and give it to police.
Gordon police station commander Insp Mark Mosinakave said such cases were rare but victims should report to police any encounter they were not comfortable with.
“We have yet to receive reports of females being kidnapped,” he said.
