LOCAL MP Loujaya Toni has given K100,000 each to two women’s groups in the Lae district of Morobe for small scale business activities.

The women’s groups are the Ahi Women’s Council and the Lae City Women’s Council.

Toni, who is also the Community Development Minister, has parked an additional K1 million with the National Development Bank (NDB) in Lae for people seeking small scale business ventures.

She commended the women for their efforts and contributions during her election campaign and success last year despite their hardships endured while living in city settlements.

Toni urged the women’s groups to seek endorsement of their local level governments to venture into sustainable business projects.

“To obtain a loan from NDB, a person or group is required to register with the Indigenous Business Council (IBC) who will assist identity and disseminate the funds.

“The maximum requirement is K5,000 while the minimum is K500 and I encourage everyone to seek assistance from the IBC,” the minister said.

Toni also allocated K20,000 to investigate and mediate a peaceful settlement between the troubled Lae and Bugandi secondary schools.

She allocated another K100,000 to introduce school identification for all schools in Lae.

“This is to identify the good students from trouble makers so to minimise problems in Lae school fights,” she said.

Toni also visited the Buimo jail’s health centre and staff accommodation project, the Bumbu police barracks house and gymnasium project, the National Polytechnic Institute where she made a commitment to build a female dormitory and staff housing.

She also attended the host organising committee meeting for the PNG Games.
