CONNECTING women leaders to help them draw strength, inspiration and share knowledge to use in their own communities is one of the aims of the United Nations Women and Department of Community Development and Religion.
The two organisations’ three-day programme in Port Moresby has brought together 24 local level government women councillors to network, share and receive leadership training.
The theme of the programme is empowering and showcasing women’s leadership at sub-national level.
Technical Expert United Women’s Dame Carol Kidu, one of the trainers in the programme, said the women should absorb as much knowledge as they could.
“To be a councillor at the national level is very hard, there are lot of things you need to understand,” she said.
Part of the programme covered how to conduct meetings, training for people, speaking confidently as a politician and being able to compete with male politicians.
