Women urged to upgrade qualifications for top posts

THERE are few undergraduate women holding senior positions in the Works Department, says senior undergraduate programme officer Wilma Wilfred.
“Most of them only have certificate or diploma qualifications compared with their male counterparts.
“Women in the technical sector are, therefore, urged to raise their qualifications by taking up courses or pursuing degree courses,” she said at the department’s National Women’s Day celebrations on Friday.
Wilfred said trainings were conducted through the vetting system to up skill the performance of women but “most often, they are reluctant to go for further studies”.
“We have more than 100 women employees but only 10 per cent hold senior positions,” she added.
