ROUND five of the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association (PMWSA) starts tomorrow with Gazelle Team One facing fourth-placed Stingerz at the Bisini Diamonds.
Following an impressive start to the season, Gazelle defeated defending champions United Sisters 16-9 last weekend in their washout game from week one and will be looking to bag their third win of the season.
An in-form Stingerz outfit will be looking to add to their 23-9 thrashing of Chebu as they meet Gazelle’s heavy hitters Navashsa Pilak and Aida Pondriket.
The opener will see competition leaders Cubs looking to extend their undefeated run in the competition when they face last-placed Chebu.
Aviat Jets play Mariners, Gazelle Team Two face Bears and Wantoks meet United in the main match.
Association president Ian Soweni said the formation of two sides from Gazelle and Bears for the season had seen a competitive four weeks with Cubs (Bears B-grade) and United Sisters gaining momentum.
“Cubs managed a win over Gazelle One and in two weeks’ time, they will play United Sisters so interesting last couple of weeks coming up,” he said.
Meanwhile, the association announced that this weekend would see the awarding of trophies to winning teams for the 2019-2020 season.
The awards were postponed last year due to the ingoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic with the competition to give out individual awards for the women’s B and A grades.
The association’s executives said the individual awards for players last season were picked from game statistics as per score books.
