A K70,00 aid post was opened at the Takis ward in East New Britain and is expected to serve about 2,000 people.
Speaking at its opening on Thursday, Gazelle MP Jelta Wong said the new aid post would serve communities in Panarapka and plantation workers with their families amongst others.
He said it would reduce statistics on mothers dying due to birth complications and elderly people dying from curable diseases.
According to Wong, the district development authority was giving priority to the rural population by supporting them in agriculture, road infrastructure and small medium enterprise activities.
Wong said the Baining people must embrace development and work with the government to change the status quo of being known as forgotten areas.
“The newly constructed road into the hinterlands of Lassul, that now reduces travelling time from seven to nine hours from Panarapka to Kerevat to four hours will complement the new aid post and markets.
