WATER PNG has affirmed that work is progressing on rehabilitatingthe Konedobu sewer upgrade project since the collapse of the DN300 sewer main two years ago.
Officer-in-charge Parkop Kurua said in recent months, pipes at the collapsed main had caused the sewer to overflow into open line drains along sections of the Lawes Road in Konedobu, Port Moresby.
“The blockage has also caused backflow in the system affecting manholes upstream towards some of the city’s high end residential areas,” he said.
“A recent site investigation carried out by WPNG’s technical team revealed the collapse via a CCTV camera.
“The damaged manhole is located five metres below the road surface and approximately 65 meters long to the next manhole.
“Road trenching is required to replace the entire 65m of DN300.
“Contractor Global Construction Ltd is in charge of the upgrade and has, so far, completed installation of the traffic management plan.
“Trenching to the existing DN300 sewer main has also been completed, ensuring survey levels and fall is maintained during installation of the pipe.”
Kurua said there was a delay in the project due to pipe levels and sizes, however they had rectify the issue and were back on project schedule.
