WORK on regulations for provincial health authorities (PHAs) is on track and will be taken to the National Executive Council for approval, Health Minister Jelta Wong says.
Wong said this in response to a series of questions from Northern Governor Gary Juffa on when the regulations would be passed, and how the Government would support the Susu Mama which was a non-government organisation (NGO) delivering healthcare services but on the brink of closure due to funding issues.
Wong said the regulations was with the State Solicitors office before it would be returned to the Health Department to be taken to the NEC for approval.
“There was some regulations that were out of date that we had to change and put back in,” he said.
“It’s gone to the process.”
Wong said he heard yesterday from Juffa on the status of the Susu Mama.
“It’s a very important entity,” he said
“It’s a foundation of the Health Department.
“It reaches places where the (Health Department) cannot reach.”
Wong said he had spoken to the relevant foreign partners as well as the Health secretary Dr Osborne Liko to furnish a report on how to better support the NGO.
“I will ensure that we have the outcome by the end of next week because Susu Mama is a foundation that a lot of us subscribe to and support,” he said.
“It will be a sad day if we don’t help this institution.”
