REPAIRS and upgrading of the Sabama to Pari Road in the coming weeks will cost K3.4 million, it was revealed at the ground breaking yesterday.

MP for Moresby-South and Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko did the ground breaking at Sabama before NCD Governor Powes Parkop, city manager Leslie Alu, Motu-Koitabu ward councillors and residents.

“This marks a new beginning for Moresby-South, this is a great year for implementation for the electorate,” Tkatchenko said.

He assured them that youths would be engaged in the road construction by the contractors.

Tkatchenko said the changes in infrastructures were for the benefit of everyone.

The city manager urged the people to look after and maintain the roads as it was a means of access to the city.

He said public support is necessary to make the vision a reality.

Parkop appealed to the people who will use this road to cooperate and maintain the roads and use it as a corridor to go into small businesses and expand.

He urged the people to stop depending on handouts, and realise that leaders were improving avenues such as roads, and markets for people to socially and economically progress.

“The capital city must be a good example for the rest of the nation,” he said. “This involves shaping up social behaviours and how we use funds,” he said.

K66 million was pencilled in under the NCDC road rehabilitation programme since last year.
