PNG Power Ltd workers responded quickly to fix a power cut after a truck hit a power pole near the Sir John Guise Stadium.

It disrupted power supply to business houses in Waigani although the Pacific Games events continued unaffected.

The incident happened at about 2pm on Tuesday when the truck accidently reversed into the pole on Cameron Road. PNG Power workers were alerted after 4pm and were seen working frantically to restore power to the area.

It later advised the public in a statement that the power outage in Waigani and Boroko areas was caused by the incident.

“This caused the power lines to fall, tripping some feeders,” the PNG Power statement said.

“PNG Power workmen are working on fixing the pole and restringing the power lines.

Electricity supply will be restored in a couple of hours.

“Electricity supply to some Games venues may be affected but they all have standby generators which can be used during the outage period.
