Works claims collecting dust

Letters

OVER the years, there are substantial claims accumulating at the Department of Works and Highways that have grown to up to millions of kina.
There has to be a mechanism put in place to scrutinise and make payments as it arrives.
This would in turn downturn the very high accumulation of claims that is supposed to be made accordingly.
With the imminent formation of a new government, those candidates who’s been claiming the prime minister’s post as their own must bear in mind to action this.
Officers at the department stated are very good at getting coke and flex card money, hence it’s negative contribution towards delays occurring.
As that it heaps extravagant costs to genuine claimants who pay to travel back and forth to Port Moresby, including accommodation and other cost incurred while following up on their claims.
It all falls back to claimants to provide genuine claim for payment and the Government through the Works and Highways Department with the Ministry responsible to pay.
Why is it that every time genuine claims are left under the table collecting dust, and false claims are paid?
Are there not any abiding laws to safeguard claimants or rather the claimants could turn to for its interpretation pertaining to their claims?
Over to the Works secretary to clarify.
