Works Department gives update on highway bridge

WORKERS will take at least two days to build a temporary bridge across the damaged section of the Highlands Highway at Okiyufa Creek near Goroka town, an official says.
Works Department public relations officer Simon Steven they began work yesterday and would continue through the night to restore traffic flow by tomorrow or Saturday,” he said.
Steven said local civil engineering company Kangi Construction was building a temporary bridge across.
He said a permanent structure would take at least two months to complete.
Meanwhile, light vehicles are using a by-pass road from Nagamiufa to Kama and to Red Corner in Goroka town.

Henganoifi MP Robert Atiyafa said he drove through more than 20 roadblocks set up by youths collecting K5 to K10 per vehicle.
