DEPARTMENT of Works are on path to entering top two of the premier division ladder after upstaging PNG Sports Foundation 19-15 in the Public Servants Netball Association round two (game three) fixture on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Finance continued their winning streak with a dominant performance over the National Broadcasting Corporation 12-5, while National Housing Commission and National Fisheries Authority settled for a 17-17 draw.
The premier division clash between Works and PNGSF at the Rita Flynn Outdoor Courts wrapped up game three matches with Works claiming the three-point.
“It’s always the teamwork that drives us to victory. Concentration is paramount and everyone played their roles well,” Works captain Varoka Buruka told The National after stunning PNGSF by four points.
“We got back to our feet after Finance beat us last week. Fingers crossed for the last two remaining games which should set us on pace for finals.”
Works regained their winning form with a banger after bowing down to Finance in the second match last Saturday.
The Varoka Buruka-led side had a swinging season but sailed into fourth place of the six-team ladder with two wins and a loss in round two fixtures. With a solid lineup powered by former Pepes shooting prowess Kimberly Rawali and young prospect Kevau Tamarua, Works had everything covered both in shooting and defence.
Tamarua and veteran Buruka paired up to put up a resilient defence which denied PNGSF from getting through the ring in the opening frame.
Rawali and Lana Lua’s shooting gifts elevated Works to a 10-5 lead into the sheds and maintained the scoreline until the fulltime siren.
The former Pepes grabbed nine goals while Lua clipped 10 on the tally.
