Workshop to look at food security policy

 THE National Food Security Policy will be reviewed at a one-day workshop in Port Moresby this week.

The Department of Agriculture and Livestock has invited all stakeholders to attend the workshop.

National departments, provincial administrations, statutory agencies, other organisations and individuals have been asked to contribute to this policy document that will guide food security development issues in the next 10 years.

The formulation of a new National Food Security Policy 2015-2024 needed the full cooperation of all the stakeholders, including government agencies, provincial administrations, statutory agencies, farmer groups and farmers.

The Department of Agriculture and Livestock urged the stakeholders to be part of the workshop and take ownership of the new policy.

The department, with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organisation, is carrying out wider consultation to gauge public views and contributions that can assist in the analysis and formulation of the policy.
