POLICE in Alotau cannot extend too much further the custody of 11 suspects allegedly associated with notorious criminal Tommy Baker, according to the new provincial police commander. Michael Tilae, the commander who is also the NCD Chief Inspector, said the joint investigation team in Alotau were looking for a better means to transfer the 11 suspects to Port Moresby quickly.
“I cannot keep them any longer and we are searching for a place that can quickly process them,” Tilae said.
The 11 men remain in custody in Alotau awaiting to be charged for offences that are likely to range from possession of and discharging firearms, holdups, robbery, burning eight houses to possibly murder.
One of the drawbacks in the situation is that the province is without a magistrate since the one based there was moved for safety reasons.
