WEST Sepik Governor Amkat Mai on Monday gave a cheque worth K17,000 for 17 students to help with their tuition fees at the Institute of Business Studies in a small ceremony at Saraga campus, 6-Mile, NCD.

Mai praised the institute for providing education opportunities for West Sepik students as well as other Papua New Guineans and hoped to increase the funding next year.

Director of IBS Sadiq Ali thanked the governor for investing in human resource, saying: “IBS is a quality leader in education with affiliations to Southern Cross University offering world recognised degrees and diplomas. I hope these students can learn from this institute and give something back to their parents”

Mai said that being a teacher for 27 years has made him realise that human resource was the best investment to help in capacity building.

He said: “The Sandaun provincial government allocated K1,043,000 for almost 896 students listed in their records.

“This is to help students in universities and colleges with their school fees. The money is non- refundable so can be put forward to next year if a student has already paid.

“Each student studying in a college or technical institute will receive K1,000 while those at university level will receive K1,500,” Mai said.
