THE Royal Papua Yacht Club is willing and able to host the Pacific Games sailing events, according to Commodore Kilroy Genia.

“We have been approached by the Games Organisers to provide a competition venue. We have the proper facilities, location and direct access to Fairfax Harbour to make this work, so we have responded positively,” Genia said.

He said the club would coordinate with the Games organisers so that members of the public will have access to the competition venue as well as unprecedented access to relevant club grounds so they could watch the preparation for the events and view the racing in the harbour from club marina area.

“I am proud as a club member and PNG citizen to be able to make this happen with a minimum of fuss, so that events will be a complete success.”

This will advance the interests of sailing and water sports in general and will provide inspiration for the next generation of young sailors,” he said.

But the sailing association president Graham Numa has objected to the club hosting the events.

But Genia said international sports events were greater than one person, or one family and “we needed to move on to make the Games a showcase for PNG”.
