Yama seeking funds for roads

MADANG Governor Peter Yama is looking at securing K10 to K12million to upgrade roads in the province.
He said the provincial government was looking for donor partners who could help provide the money. “We will now be working on roads this year,” Yama told The National.
“The main roads in Madang are all national government roads. All the interior roads are our responsibility,” Yama said.
The main roads from Bogia to Madang town and the Lae roads all the way to Madang town and the wharf are national government declared roads so money is appropriated for that under the Works Department.
“At the provincial level, we are now trying to find other ways, other people to assist us to get the roads around Madang town sealed.
“The main roads will not cost much but it depends if you end up using cement like what was done by the previous government.
“What we want to do now is just build normal pavement materials so we can get it done at a much lower cost, at around K8 million, and cover the whole area.”
