Yanamo selects 38 players for Ambunti-Dreikikier Games

THIRTY-EIGHT players in a community in Ambunti, East Sepik have been selected to participate in a district games scheduled for later this year, an official says.
Yanamo Sports Association president Solomon Aplas said the players have been selected from the recent Yanamo soccer and volleyball tournament to represent zone in the Ambunti-Dreikikier Games.
“Twenty men for soccer and 18 women for volleyball will train and prepare to represent the Yanamo area,” he said.
Aplas said this was an opportunity for the players to expose their raw talent.
“If they make it through the selections, they can be able to represent Ambunti during the provincial games to select Team East Sepik for the PNG Games in July,” Aplas said earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Original Baku Squad won the Yanamo Cup after beating Captain Crocodiles in the men’s soccer final of the tournament.
They lifted the cup including K2,000 while the runners up received K1,200. In the women’s volleyball final, Wangai Sisters defeated Malagamba to claim the trophy and K1,000 prize. Malagamba received K800.
