Yates appointed as Credit Corporation chairman

SYD Yates is the new chairman for Credit Corporation (PNG) Ltd.
Yates is a permanent resident of Papua New Guinea for well over 20 years.
He and his wife Barbara have been active contributors to many charities and community groups over those years.
Yates has a wealth of experience in the banking, finance and investment sector.
Outside of his work commitments, Yates has given much time to supporting and promoting the development of PNG sports women and men.
He has served on the board of the PNG Sports Federation since 1998, the PNG Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association.
He led the PNG contingents to the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012 as PNG’s chef de mission.
Yates continues to assist the development of sport in Papua New Guinea, by agreeing in 2018 to take on the role as chairman of the PNG Rugby Football Union.
In business, Yates commenced as chief executive of Kina Securities as CEO and executive director in 1997, a position he held for over 20 years, having to lead the organisation to tremendous growth with establishment of Kina Investments, Kina Asset Management and later leading the acquisition of May Bank and the establishment of Kina Bank.
His standout achievement during his time at Kina included the successful listing of the company on the Australian Securities Exchange and the Port Moresby Stock Exchange in 2015 and the acquisition of May Bank PNG in the same year.
In 1998, Yates became one of the founding directors and spearheaded the establishment of the Port Moresby Stock Exchange. He has also made significant contributions as a board member for organisations such as Air Niugini and bmobile.
