UNITED Nations certified human rights defender and magistrate Monica Malipu Balakau presented a certificate of recognition to Fazilah Bazari for her contribution to the empowerment of women and youths in the city.
Bazari manages the National Capital District Commission’s Active City Development Programme behavioural change campaign using non-competitive sports and holistically driven, creative movements.
The recognition coincided with her birthday on Aug 17. With cake-cutting and a birthday song, it was celebrated in the city by youths, women and others whose lives she has touched.
Bazari’s programme mission is to elevate, empower, educate and employ people who may seem to have no skills or are marginalised, giving them hope and a second chance in life.
This is one of the many initiatives by NCD Governor Powes Parkop, who believes that for sustainable change to occur, it has to happen at the individual level.
Bazari, a yoga master and trainer, received her recognition along with 53 other youths who will be graduating as teachers and change agents.
