YOUNG men and women in the country need more training to contribute towards the development of the country, Australian High Commissioner to PNG Deborah Stokes says.

Speaking at the opening of the K5.3 million facilities at the La Salle-Hohola Youth Development Centre in Port Moresby, Stokes said education was the simple and greatest investment that parents could do for their children.

She said the Australian government recognised the need to support and provide quality technical and vocational education to the marginalised youths in the country.

“Papua New Guinea and Australia are intertwined to promote education,” she said.

“Australia supports various organisations because they have strong leadership in management.”

She said investing in the education of girls was important to promote equality in education.

“Allow women and girls to be equal to men and boys. Strong men and boys respect women,” she said.

Principal Br Anthony Swamy said it was through the AusAID Incentive Fund that the Centre had come this far.
