JOB opportunities for some young people are being hampered by the delay in the issue of police-clearance forms, it has been revealed.
A group of youths came to The National office in Port Moresby yesterday to air their complaint.
Employers need job seekers to obtain the police-clearance forms to prove they have not committed any crime.
Group spokesman Eddie Robert from Gulf said officers working in the section dealing with clearance forms were slow, forcing them to miss their deadlines with potential employers.
“When we go in the morning, they say the office will be opened at 10am,” Robert said.
“But at 10am, the female who looks after the counter goes up to do banking which takes two to three hours.”
“Then they tell us to wait around until 1pm. And when they open at 1pm, they close again at 3pm.
“It is so hilarious because they open late but close on time.”
Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi said he would look into the matter.
“I don’t understand why the female has to do banking in the morning and keep all these people waiting,” Turi said.
“I will look into the matter and find out why there has been so much delay at the police clearance section.”
Turi called on the public not to hesitate to speak to him or the Superintendent for Operations to lodge complaints regarding police service.
“The police is here to help the people. If you have issues or complaints or just need to confirm something, come and talk to us,” he said.
