A YOUTH campaign for safer public spaces in Lae, Morobe, has urged people to report or stop those committing verbal abuse.
The Sanap Wantaim Youth campaign for safer public spaces for women and girls in Lae has urged people to report or stop verbal harassments, especially swearing in public places.
The youth campaign was part of United Nations Women programme under phase two of the Meri (market, economy, recovery & inclusiveness) project.
Youth advocate Israel Waiogri, speaking in an awareness at main market, said those who swore at others in public needed to be reported.
“Those who are there and witness such must try to stop those verbal harassers,” he said.
“Even others who are around the person swearing would also be offended.
If hear and see someone swearing at another person in a public place, you must try to stop them.
So such behaviour won’t continue.
“Tell them it’s not right and to maintain peace and harmony in our community,” Waiogri said.
He said indecent jokes were a part of verbal harassment and would make other person embarrassed or uncomfortable.
