YOUTHS in Laloki, outside Port Moresby, attended a three-week basic coding and drone-flying classes with ExxonMobil PNG during the holidays.
According to the company, the classes were supported by PNG Flying Labs, a local non-government organisation.
Under the theme “breaking barriers”, the workshop introduced 37 youngsters, nearly half were girls, to do digital tools that promoted team-building, the importance of well-being and problem-solving skills through computer game coding, robot building, and drone piloting.
PNG Flying Labs co-founder Sophia-Joy Soli said: “Without ExxonMobil PNG’s assistance and Laloki ward 1 councillor George Girisa’s endorsement, we would not have been able to train these children, especially young girls, to this science, technology, engineering, and mathematics based programme.”
