THE youths of Malaguna number one in the Balanataman local level government (LLG) of Rabaul, East New Britain have been urged to change their attitude and take ownership of Rabaul town.
This was among the messages to the youths from provincial administrator Wilson Matava during a reconciliation ceremony by Malaguna, Matupit, Nordup and Matalau villagers in the Kombiu LLG last week.
Matava told the people who witnessed the reconciliation at the Kuragaga St Xavier Catholic church in Rabaul last Thursday that this reconciliation should be the last as he didn’t want the youths to repeat the problem – tribal fighting.
He also called on parents to take up their responsibility as parents and start disciplining their children.
He appealed to church elders, ward members and law and order committee members to be responsible and do whatever they could, no matter how little, to help the youths avoiding trouble.
“As leaders in the wards, LLGs and church, you have your roles and responsibilities,” he said.
“Please try to involve the youths in little activities which will help them stay away from trouble.
“This is the second reconciliation for the Malaguna one, and, therefore, I am making an appeal to youths of Malaguna not to repeat what you did with Rapolo, Malaguna two and three and now with Matupit and villagers along the sea side.”
Matava urged leaders of Rabaul to work together to address and minimise such issues, especially law and order.
He thanked the organising committee for hosting the occasion and hoped the youths won’t repeat what they had done.
