Youths walk to show God’s love

Faith

More than 500 youths from different churches across the National Capital District took part in a walk to inspire youths to do good things.
The walk started at 6am when the youths handed out food, drinks and clothing on a route from Waigani to Boroko and Tabari Place.
“If we profess to be Christians then we need to go out and act like we are, that’s why Inter-Youth Wave came up with this idea to do the wave walk,” event manager Judah Memafu said.
Memafu said the youths gave out things to people, and prayed and shared the gospel with them.
This was the first ‘wave walk’ for Inter-Youth Wave which involved youths from more than 16 different churches from Gerehu to Vabukori.
“Our vision is to be the driving force of uniting youth ministries for interaction and moral development,” Inter-Youth chairman Thomas Hola said.
“The vision come out from the gospel of Luke (5) where Peter summoned his partners to help draw in the catch of fish.
“This passage means that we all are fishing (working) in the same Sea of Galilee (ministry), but one boat (church) and one man is not enough to draw in all the fish (people) into the churches. We need each other’s help.
Hola said the group’s mission is to ensure youths find hope, fulfil their calling and facilitate healing among other yound people. With the theme “share God’s love”, the walk ended with an outreach at Boroko.
The group’s rallies have grown from 1000 participants in 2014 to about 8000 this year.
The group is encouraging more youth ministries and organisations to join to preach the gospel, promote unity and become ambassadors of Christ.
