THE 2013 Arpi Limited 15s rugby union preseason kicks off this weekend at the Maltech oval, in Rabaul.

Ten teams have confirmed participation, with the Cardinals playing the Matupit Diggers in the opening match. That will be followed by Rabaul Redskins-Maltech Rookies, Kokopo Barbarians-Tomaringa Royals and Harlequins-Piggies.

In the main fixture, Vikings face the University of Natural Resources and Environment Vudal Bulls.

East New Britain Rugby Football Union president, Tony Namur yesterday said a tough competition lay ahead.  He said the successful staging of the 15s competition served as the foundation for the roll-out of the Pacific in Union schools rugby in East New Britain.

The concept was launched in Rabaul by PIU country manager Paul Joseph when officiating during the sevens grand final a fortnight ago.

Namur thanked Pukpuks coach Warren Jennings for visiting there.

A provincial sevens Kais team will play in PNGFRU sanctioned tournaments.
