ONLY 100, of the 120 police reservists who underwent a three-month training at the Gusap training centre, passed the test, says Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura.
There were 19 women among the successful recruits.
“Those (20) asked to withdraw from the training (had) discipline issues or were not medically fit to undergo training,” he said. The training is similar to that taken at the Bomana Police College in Port Moresby, Supt Singura said.
He said that those wanting to join the police reservist programme in Morobe should be disciplined and medically fit.
“We are training these police reservists to carry out police work in their districts,” he said.
“It means they have to meet the criteria to be eligible to complete the training.”
Supt Singura said the first batch of recruits had highlighted issues which would be considered before the second intake was finalised early next year.
Morobe rural police commander Chief Insp John Daviaga warned those wanting to join the police reserve training that it was a regular police training.
“You do not know – in the future, you might go for another three months training to confirm you as a regular police,” he said.
“So when applying to join the reservists programme, be prepared.”
The successful recruits have been issued their uniforms and are finalising their National Identification cards and bank account details before being posted to their districts.
