Court stops recruitment for positions in Defence Dept

A COURT has stopped the recruitment exercise relating to two positions in the Defence Force because it awaiting a judicial review.
The positions are of the first assistant secretary corporate affairs and first assistant secretary estate and infrastructure.
National Court judge Justice Nicholas Miviri, in a judicial review case last Friday, granted the stay order sought by former assistant secretary corporate services Doris Lenturut which she filed after the Defence Department ignored her reinstatement as ordered by the Public Services Commission (PSC). Lenturut was sacked by former defence secretary Vali Aitsi.
She appealed the decision on March 2, 2017, which the PSC upheld and ordered her reinstatement to her position.
But the Department of Defence refused to implement the PSC decision for reinstatement. “It is clear that the overall interest of justice does not warrant a change of circumstances,” Justice Miviri said.
The stay order also applies to the staff at the Department of Personnel Management.
The matter is set for trial on Friday.
