FINANCE Minister Sir John Pundari says 110 State-purchased Apec vehicles are still with the public and certain public officials.
He said the department had progressed into the recovery phase of the Apec vehicles which were missing.
“These vehicles are all accounted for and will be recouped by the Finance Department with assistance of police very soon,” he said.
Sir John said some Apec vehicles were being used by police, defence, health, national pandemic office and other government agencies under temporary arrangements.
Once recovery is complete, the vehicles will firstly be distributed to the districts and the balance will be put to public tender for immediate disposal.
Sir John also said the remaining 38 Maserati vehicles were re-tendered and now open to both national and international markets for bidding.
“Out of the 40 Maserati and three Bentley vehicles, two Maseratis and a Bentley had been sold and generated K1.6 million revenue for the State,” he said.
“The remaining balance of all Maserati vehicles after public tender sales will be allocated to designated PNG foreign missions throughout the world for official use.
“A number of Maserati vehicles will be kept in the country and managed under the national events council reserved for diplomatic and official use.
“This exercise will commence once all missing vehicles are recouped and assessed by the Department of Works.”
From total 492 Apec acquired vehicles, 166 were donated while the Government purchased 326 vehicles.
Sir John said all 166 donor Apec vehicles were given to churches, schools, hospitals, police, fire service among others.
“No Apec vehicles were allocated to individual persons or public servants in this disposal exercise.”
