ABOUT 120 elementary teachers in Enga will be upgrading their qualifications through a six-week training starting next week.
They will complete their certificate in elementary teaching and be certified as elementary teachers.
The programme is called ‘Teach for Tomorrow’ “and is the initiative of Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF), PNG Education Institute (PNGEI) and National Department of Education (NDoE), with the support of Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) mine.
Dr Genevieve Nelson, KTF chief executive officer, said trainee teachers would participate in lectures, practicum, workshops, and assessments co-delivered by trainers from KTF, PNGEI and NDoE.
“Once certified, the graduate teachers will have the opportunity to access Government payroll positions for the first time, after volunteering in their schools for many years,” she said.
