Immunisation is not 666, say churches

GENERAL-Secretary of PNG Council of Churches Roger Joseph has condemned misconception on the polio immunisation campaign.
Joseph said there had been rumors spreading among churchgoers that the immunisation was the work of the 666 concept in the Book of Revelations in the Bible.
He said church leaders must not misinterpret the Word of God in the Bible to stop good things happening to help the people.
“Let’s use the pulpit to give awareness to the people on the benefits of bringing their children to be vaccinated,” Joseph said.
“Let me appeal to you that the polio sickness is real.
“If not prevented at its earlier stage, it will permanently disable and end the life of our young generation who have the purpose of God to be future leaders of this country.
“That responsibility of caring and nurturing begins with parents and guardians.
“In the context of polio, it is your responsibility as parents to protect your children by bringing them to be vaccinated.”
Joseph said the council had a total membership of 6.3 million across the nation.
He said it stood in support of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Health Department in ensuring polio vaccination reached all remote parts of the country.
