130 officers arrested, charged and suspended

MORE than 130 police officers have been arrested, charged and suspended from office from Nov 2018 up to now, according to Gordon Police Station officer Apollos Terry.
He said the Policing the Police team had rooted out many bad officers for offences such as assault, sexual abuse, false pretence, releasing of prisoners from police cells, bribery and others.
Terry said two police officers were terminated, one from Hohola station and one from a mobile squad.
He said more than 10 had been convicted and are in Bomana Jail.
Terry said police internal affairs had done well in the past four months. It is based at the Gordon station with 24 officers.
“We need more policemen to engage with us to carry out duties, because the current number we have is not enough with the workload,” Terry said.
He said Police Commissioner Gari Baki wanted to branch out to other provinces.
