Man charged with obtaining K76,000

A senior Public Curator’s Office staffer has been charged with one count of official corruption for allegedly obtaining K76,000 to release the late Chief Ombudsman Chronox Manek’s property.
National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Unit director Mathew Damaru said Nelson Matiolu, 35, from Dauli village in Komo-Magarima, Hela, was arrested and charged and detained at Boroko Police Station.
He is expected to appear in court this week for mention.
Matiolu is accused of corruptly soliciting funds and a vehicle from the late Manek’s next of kin to facilitate the transfer of his estate.
He was the senior estate officer for the Mamose region.
Damaru said yesterday that in 2014, Matiolu obtained from the next of kin a vehicle for K31,000 and K45,000 in cash to fast-track the settlement of Manek’s estate in Lae.
