SIXTEEN teams will be competing in the Hebou Super 8s tournament this weekend with a K5,000 in prize money and other cash incentives for outstanding performances from teams and players. The event, set to start tomorrow at the Amini Park, has attracted the eight teams from the Port Moresby premier division and four provincial sides, who are also participating at the 4th PNG Games. They are Poreporena, United, Raukele, Coasters, Badili Hardware Steamships, Kempa, Taora and KCC. Curries and Fairfax have also confirmed their participation. The provincial sides are Milne Bay, Kimbe, Central, Team NCD and invitational sides Keapara and Vabukori who are expected to put a good fight. The teams will be divided into groups of four and will play three matches each in their respective groups with the top teams in each pool going into the finals. The grand final is expected to be played at 4pm on Sunday. There are also cash prizes on offer to the player who takes the most wickets (K500), the player who hits the most sixes (K500), the player who has the highest runs scored aggregate (K500) and a special cash prize of K1,000 will be awarded to the first player who scores a century. Hebou Constructions (PNG) general manager Mitch Lutschini said yesterday that the company would extend their significant support for cricket by sponsoring the event. “Port Moresby will witness an exciting brand new cricket competition showcasing some of our best local and national cricket talent,” he said.
