ONE hundred sixty-six policewomen were among the 1,120 officers promoted to various ranks recently that concluded the 2019 police promotion board sitting last month.
Among the 166, one was promoted to superintendent and two to chief inspector.
The promotions, inclusive of the female numbers included four chief superintendents, 10 superintendents, 13 chief inspectors, 18 senior inspectors, 32 chief sergeants, 45 senior sergeants, 236 sergeants, 319 senior constables and 443 first constables.
According to the promotion list, six provincial police commanders from Morobe, Enga, Madang, Jiwaka, East New Britain and Eastern Highlands were also promoted to a higher rank from their previous rank.
A total of 37 non-commissioned officers were promoted to inspector and senior inspector.
However, they will be required to undergo a three-month police management course to enhance their skill level and knowledge in command and control.
This is to prepare them for the transition from non-commissioned to commissioned officers.
Police Commissioner David Manning congratulated the newly promoted officers.
Comm Manning urged the officers to continue to serve with commitment and professionalism.
“It is very hard to be promoted because each person is competing with hundreds, if not thousands, of other members for limited positions,” he said.
“However, it is very easy to be stripped off the hard earned promotion should you not perform or conduct yourself inappropriately.
“So my advice to all of the members who have just recently been promoted is to work hard and be professional in everything you do going forward.
“To those who have missed out, please do not be discouraged as we have the 2020 promotions coming within two months’ time and you will still be considered.”
