CENTRAL police are still investigation a fight in Lealea village last Saturday which have left two dead so far.
Central Commander Superintendent John Midi said the fight was alcohol-related but “the cause is still unknown”.
He said drunkards started a fight at a party.
“In the fight, a boy from Papa village was badly wounded and admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital,” he said.
“We still do not know who or what actually sparked the fight.
“On Sunday morning, some men from Lealea village assaulted two boys who were believed to have been involved in the beating of the boy from Papa at the party.
“Police intervened and stopped the fighting and took them all to the police station.”
Midi said when the Papa villagers heard that the boy had died in hospital, they retaliated.
“They came to the police post to seek revenge on the two Lealea men who were arrested,” he said.
“A big mob stormed in and they damaged the police building,” he said.
Midi said the Papa villagers chased the Lealea men out of the police post and attacked them.
“One of the man escaped,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the other was beaten up and later died.”
