MORE than 20,000 persons are expected to be involved in conducting the 2024 national census, an official says.
National statistician John Igitoi said this would include data collectors, census coordinators and trainers from the national to the ward level.
“We will engage more than 22,000 persons across the country to help with the census,” he said.
“Advertisements are currently in the newspaper, radio, television and social media,National Statistical Office (NSO) website and at the provincial census offices. The census is a massive exercise with many people involved, but there are minimum requirements needed for them to participate.
“We will have to recruit more than 16,000 data collectors throughout the country before May.
“Training will be provided by NSO during the first week of May.”
Igitoi said regional workshops, facilitated by NSO, would be
conducted around the country with provincial census coordinators.
“From April 15-19, we will talk with the coordinators and tell them what sort of things we expect them to do in their provinces, especially on recruitment, distribution of census materials, publicity and various other aspects,” Igitoi said.
“The actual census operations will be done by the provinces, as those in the wards are the actual data collectors and we will be guiding them.
“They will also tell us about the situation in their provinces.
“This valuable information will be discussed at these workshops so that we can make better plans for the census.”
