THE National Statistics Office has presented the 2011 National Population and Housing Census final figures to Speaker, Theo Zurenuoc to distribute to  parliamentarians.

The census final report includes the population of Papua New Guinea in 2011, which stands at 7,275,324.

It lists population distribution by province, including the two new provinces of Jiwaka and Hela.

The reports include population distribution by local level governments at the provincial level.

Zurenuoc thanked Minister for Planning and Monitoring Charles Abel for supporting the NSO in releasing the report. He said the report was an important tool for planning, particularly at the district level.

It was released by Abel last month in Port Moresby.

Acting national statistician, Roko Koloma said the NSO stood ready to help provinces and districts in providing quality statistical data for their development planning.

The census report was the second in a series of reports – the first was the release of preliminary figures in 2012.

Other reports pertaining to the 2011 census will be the ward counts, provincial analysis reports and monographs on fertility, mortality and migration.
