PORT Moresby records an average of 30 cases of sexual crimes in a month, Met Supt Perou N’dranou says.
He said yesterday that reported cases of sexual crimes seemed to be increasing and occurred frequently in homes, according to police records.
N’dranou said last year the total reported cases of sexual crime was 390, or an average of 30 cases per month.
He also outlined wife-beating, (sexual) touching of minors, incest, among others as those which fell under sexual crimes.
N’dranou said: “There is moral decay in our societies which is evident in high rates of sexual crimes.
“For instance, if 20 crimes are reported in a week, about 10 are sexual crimes. The daily briefs shows it is way higher compared to other crimes in the city.
“It’s (rate) getting high every year,
“I don’t think the figure will change.”
He said police could only do so much and the best course of action to address the issue was for more public education and awareness on sexual crimes.
“No matter how good police will put up, the best thing is public awareness into homes.”

  • People in PNG are evolving backwards. Instead of developing into more advanced human beings with higher intelligence and morale standards, people are evolving backwards into monkeys and primates.

This is quite apparent particularly in urban areas like Port Moresby. The government/police is slowly losing control. Before it is too late, we need to have tough laws that are actively enforced.

  • All this are the result of watching too much pornography, why not our government of the day have all the links relating to pornographic materials be blocked off and arrest those in possession of pornographic materials.

If we are ignoring the this currently, maybe 2 to 3 years time our girl child will not even walk alone to school or even do marketing or shopping. act now before its too late.

    • If the Govt blocks off all the porn sites on the internet, then all is good, right?
What about the locally made porn that is distributed on WhatsApp, FB, etc etc?

  • What does Supt. N’Dranou think of a convicted rapist like James Yali getting over 72000 votes in an election mean for the morals of PNG
Who in their right mind would vote for a rapist?

  • ITS ALL STARTS FROM HOME- WAIT 90% of POM CITY DWELLERS DO NOT OWN A HOME SO YOU CAN CALCULATE THE NUMBER OF POTENTIAL RAPISTS!

  • If all else fails to find solutions for all manners of evil in society, we really need spiritual solutions for all our problems. Hence, we need God more now than ever before.
