300 soldiers to help police: Manning

National

NATIONAL Pandemic Controller David Manning has confirmed that 300 soldiers will help police to stop or slow the spread of the Covid-19.
“We have requested for 300 men and women, who will be conducting a brief with NCD/Central commander Anthony Wagambie Jr (today),” Manning, who is also the Police Commissioner, said.
Prime Minister James Marape said the use of the Defence Force help was not to scare people but to manage crowd control and ensure there was an orderly fashion of everyday living as part of the new normal.
“Let me dispel many unnecessary politically-induced messages,” Marape said.
“Army and police are simply to be PR (public relations) agents on the crowd, simply for crowd control, making sure people are moving in an orderly fashion, space and distance is given.
“Army and police will work with churches, youths and public servants and also work closely with NCD Governor Powes Parkop.”
“To ensure the city is living in an orderly manner, knowing that Covid-19 can spread in a populated area.
“They will be on the ground to balance to continue on living and performing and functioning while living with this virus.”

  • Good Mr Controller, hope there is no brutality and opportunists during this joint forces service

  • One interesting observation from 9mile to Erima on the first morning of PMVs operating after the 2nd lockdown, nearly all PMVs, not all passengers, bus crews and drivers were wearing face masks or if they have it’s down at their chin most likely they are chewing betelnut and/or smoking. Same for some taxis as well.
When can people just willingly follow simple SOE requirements? We cry for the resumption of PMV service and yet we can’t obey simple instructions, my goodness this is typical stone age mentality at its best. We seem to not understand what is happening in the world today because we are still trapped in our stone age era.
