A CHURCH-run family life seminar ended last week with 31 couples signing their marriage certificates.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hohola, Port Moresby, hosted the seminar, which was run by its Central Papua Conference family life director Pastor Simon Vetali.

Vetali said the certificates indicated the official recognition of the marriages by the church and State. He is recognised by the State as a marriage celebrant.

He said it was important for marriages to be certified.

“Marriage certificates are important as they prove you are married to your husband or wife,” he said.

“In cases where one partner dies and you need to claim property or the will, the certificate will act as a proof.

“It secures, stabilises and legalises your marriage.

“I encourage those without certificates to ensure you have one.”

The couples read their vows before signing their certificates.  Some of them exchanged rings. They were blessed in prayer by conference president, Pr Tony Kemo.

Friends, family and the congregation witnessed the event, which ended with the sharing of a cake.
