40 applicants to undergo training and NZ placement

THE Livestock Development Corporation (LDC) is currently conducting interviews with 147 applicants to pick 40 to undergo training and possible job placement in New Zealand farms, says an official.
LDC human resource manager Shirley Mariole said this was a partnership with Dairy and Beef Cattle Farming Consultancy (DBCFC) where K1 million was allocated for training and placement for one year.
She said four batches of 10 successful applicants, or 40 applicants in total would undertook training and possible work placements in various farms in collaboration with the DBCFC.
Mariole said following the advertisement of the project last month, about 147 applications reached the HR office.
LDC managing director Terry Koim said this programme would pave the way for growth and provide excellent training and employment opportunities for graduates now and in the future.
“The success of this project this year will go a long way to develop a human resource base with appropriate skills to ensure PNG has a sustainable livestock industry going forward.”
Koim said LDC would continue to partner with agencies and development partners to ensure this programme continues was consistently delivered to the expectations of government and our people, as LDC continues.
Mariole said from the 147 applications there were 97 male and 50 female while 118 were between the required age range of 20 to 35 years, 20 did not provide age data and seven were 36 years and above.
She said 78 of the applicants had attended or were attending the University of Natural Resources and Environment, 27 were from University of Technology, 10 from University of Goroka and seven from University of PNG while 15 failed to provide this data.
“During screening, it was identified that 125 applicants are agricultural graduates while 15 per cent are from other science disciplines. Furthermore, 113 were degree qualified, 16 had diplomas, seven were certificate holders and the other 10 had no data.”
