Port Moresby saw an additional 56 babies added to the list of people living in the capital
city over the long weekend.
There were 28 babies born on Christmas Day and an equal number born on Boxing Day at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Nineteen of the Christmas babies were males, with 12 boys and 16 girls born on Boxing Day.
The heaviest among the Christmas babies was Emmanuel Xavier Arisa, who was born to Stella and James Arisa, from Gulf.
Emmanuel was born at 3am and weighed 4.1kg.
He is the fifth child for the Arisas.
Duty nurse Eggie Makabe said all went well at the labour ward except for a shortage of midwives.
She said there were 15 midwives to help mothers but that was half the required number.
She said 15 to 20 mothers were admitted at the labour ward each day and only three midwives were available to help them.
