70-year-old grandfather charged over sexual abuse

A 70-YEAR-OLD grandfather from Central is in court on charges of sexual penetration and abuse of trust after he allegedly had sex with his 14-year-old granddaughter in Central.
The man appeared on a K800 bail on Monday before Magistrate Laura Kuvi in the Central Court for his arraignment (reading of the charge).
It was alleged that on Dec 28 last year around 2.30pm, the grandfather was at a village in Bereina in Central.
The girl, after having a bath went to her room to change into her clothes but was allegedly followed by the grandfather.
The grandfather allegedly covered her mouth, threatened her with a kitchen knife and told her not to scream.
The grandfather then sexually assaulted her.
While at the house veranda, the girl’s mother asked the grandfather why he was there but he did not give a good reason.
A complaint was made against the grandfather stemming from a medical examination done on the girl.
The matter was reported to the Central Crime Investigation Division (CID) at Gordon, Port Moresby.
Magistrate Kuvi adjourned the case to March 2.
