A senior police officer is concerned that investigations in high profile cases involving government officials and executives of private companies are delayed due to a lack of resources and information.
Boroko police station superintendent operations Chief Inspector Michael Tilae said they would now look into having those high-profile cases investigated and sorted out.
Tilae said this on Tuesday following appointment of Peter Kusup as the new officer in charge of the criminal investigation division (CID) in NCD.
“The high profile cases that have been reported that involved the issues of national interest, especially the crime reports that we are getting from offences that are being committed by senior government officers, executives of private companies all those big issues will now be looked into to be investigated,” he said.
Tilae said they were working on getting all these outstanding matters including fraud matters designated to various investigators to deal with.
“Those cases have been put to slow pace of investigation because information coming through and resources needed to complete files on time and conveniently and professionally were lacking.”
He said all fraud cases could be reported to the Boroko police station as they also had a fraud unit there.
“Fraud cases that involved amounts of money less than K100mil can be dealt with at Boroko as officers there could make arrests,” Tilae said.
Cases involving more than K100mil would be referred by the office of the metropolitan superintendent to the Fraud Squad office, he said.
