Tkatchenko says ghost names revealed

The installation of a time and access system for the Lands and Physical Planning Department has exposed five ghost names, according to Minister Justin Tkatchenko.
During its launching on Friday, Tkatchenko said the system revealed that five people with ghost names were on the government payroll.
“That means that five people are giaman (not real), and have been receiving money from someone else,” he said.
“It’s a good way of identifying the true situation when it comes to the department and who is working.
“At the end of the day, your hand is your identification and that will truly state who you are and what the situation is when it comes to you clocking in and out every day.”
The K400,000 system will also be installed in the department’s regional offices.
“We want to make sure all our staff – no matter if I you are director or secretary, tea boy or tea girl – come to work on time and do full day’s honest work for the benefit of our department,” Tkatchenko said.
“Remember, we serve the public, the people of PNG.
“It was a directive to get our act together in the department and these measures are very important because we need to be accountable to ourselves and the public.
“I urge all our department people to follow the process.
“It’s a clear situation where we are cleaning up the department.
“This department is now going to be totally transparent in many different ways.”
Acting Secretary Oswald Tolopo said gone were the days of registering in the attendance book.
“This machine will ensure that we are in the office. We must do our jobs,” he said.
