The University Piggies will be determined to hand the Brothers their first loss of the Capital Rugby Union season when they face off in the premier grade semifinal at the Bava Park tomorrow.
University defeated Brothers 22-17 in last year’s grand final to be crowned champions.
Both teams have been consistent this season, with the Brothers recording 14 wins to lead the competition ahead of the Piggies.
“The Brothers set our competition alight with their performance this season and rightfully head into this weekend as outright favourites, as they have really worked hard,” University coach Paul Joseph said.
“My priority is to get my players to stay focused and committed for the 80 minutes.
“Ball possession and defence will be key for us if we are to be beat the Brothers.
“Veteran props Kaliroa Kali, Api Kassman and Wesley Thomas will steady the ship, while halfback Kenneth Vagi and Kilory Lote have their hands full to counter PNG Pukpuks 7s stars in Arthur Clement, Hensley Peter, Eugene Tokavai, Wesley Vali and wing sensation Dumaya Dogono.
“If we can do the little things right and stay composed, we will give ourselves every chance to get a positive result.”
Brothers coach Joe Kautu said they were looking forward to the game.
“University have a couple of good footballers and obviously they cannot be underestimated even though we beat them twice in this season,” he said.
“We just need to complete our sets. Our attack and defence have been good this season.
“University beat us in the grand final last year, so hopefully we can get our revenge.”
